Christmas Markets

What makes Christmas Market so special is the position. The city is a small jewel, set amidst the Alps, and the magnificent view of the mountains covered with snow in the background will be visible from every part of the city, peeping out from the spires of churches and the acute black slated roofs.

Tradition and modernity, mountain experience and urban diversity; this is what attracts visitors to the Alpine city with heart! Innsbruck impresses again this year with 180 festive stalls at its Christmas markets and an atmospheric variety guaranteed to enthral right around the city.

Christkindlmarkt Altstadt
daily: 17.30
Every day the Christmas market in the Old Town presents Tyrolean tradition in the form of folk music and theatrical performances.

The medieval houses in the Old Town are full of magic. Various buildings in the main streets (Kiebachgasse and Köhleplatz) are dedicated to fairy- tales, and it will be funny to stroll around the stands trying to recognize the most famous of these tales. But pay attention: just like in every fairy-tale, bad encounters are always behind the corner, and in Innsbruck you may even experience a face to face with the Giants, in a street dedicated to them: the Riesengasse.

Music

The musicians of the Golden Roof, also called the Tower musicians: every day at 17.30 the Golden Roof orchestra performs Christmas songs from the tower facing the market square.
On the occasion of the Christmas Market, in many churches of the city are organized free instrumental concerts and choirs, as well as cultural exhibitions and events.
