Klagenfurt Christmas Markets 2018
from 9.30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Christmas time in Klagenfurt is a very peculiar one. The entire city is affected by the event. Smell of mulled wine and chestnuts in the squares, shops decked out for the feast and Christmas lights hanging from every street and lane all add to here.
Every shopping trip, every gift lovingly chosen is a unique experience – like a small gift you give to yourself. And afterwards, when you meet with friends over a glass of mulled wine at one of the outdoor stands, you can discuss your shopping experience in detail.
A stroll through the city with its sparkling lights and the beautiful Renaissance facades is not the only way to get into the right Christmas mood.
More than 60 events will take place around the biggest Christmas market at Neuer Platz – such as Austria’s biggest “Krampus” run – that attract visitors from near and far to the historic capital of Carinthia so justly famous for its rich traditions and customs. A “Krampus”, by the way, is St. Nick’s terrifying companion. From 21 November until Christmas Eve, the city resounds with folk tunes and Christmas carols; children are busy with handicrafts or bake Christmas cookies, and there is so much going on in the city at various events.
One of the most beautiful aspects of Advent surely is the bright eyes of children who marvel at the huge, beautifully decorated Christmas tree at Neuer Platz, who meet Saint Nicholas himself and are allowed to stroke the donkey, who listen to Christmas stories, bake their fi rst Christmas cookies, and so very much more…
This year, there are again a great many opportunities for children to deal with their excitement and shorten the time until Christmas.
